I can’t remember where I saw it, but Chagall made a beautiful vase.  Although it was a pot and not a painting, it looked like a Chagall.

Recently, I have been trying to focus on creating a uniform body of work.  I would like to develop a style that is unique to me and my experiences. 

While working in the pottery studio at ORVAG, I decided to alter one of my pots and approach it more like a canvas, and less like a form. 

Here is the result:

It isn’t fired yet, but you should see the two dogs running in the hills with a tree and house in the background.  

I hope to include it in the wood fire at the Artisan Center at Maple Creek next month. 

The Yellow Dog Society are a group of folks who meet at Broken Bone Farms for camping, swimming, eating, drinking and other rowdiness.  They meet  in the woods by a beautiful pond with a cabin.  I was asked by Mary Beth Autry, the leader of the group, to create a painting for the cabin, and when it was finished, I was invited Broken Bone Farms to meet the "Yellow Dogs" and unveil the painting.

Mary Beth’s husband, Steve, cooked a delicious chili verde, a green chili made with roasted peppers.  He’s also a talented photographer, and responsible for this blog post’s photos.  I wish I had asked for a copy of the beautiful photo he took while we were down by the cabin and two deer jumped in front of us.  They were in the snow by a creek.

Thanks Yellow Dogs for supporting my work and having me over for such a nice time.  It was a real pleasure!

I would be mad about having to put everything on hold for the last week, if it weren’t so beautiful. 

If you haven’t heard, Kentuckyland was hit by some serious winter weather.

We were covered in snow and ice.

I did some walking around town, and took some pictures of Maysville.

Even braved crossing the icy bridge to get a shot of the city.

After the main roads were clear,

I took the 4×4 out to rescue a friend who was stranded deep in the woods without electricity.

It was difficult driving the roads without anywhere to pull over.  This area is always beautiful, but this week, it was freaking gorgeous!  

I’m usually not a photo guy, but it was too cold to go out with the paints, so I tried to work on my camera skills.
